Question Time

I want to report back on all of the very useful forums we've been having this semester. I'd also like to say a big thank you to those who attended and contributed so much to these discussions. As with all our forums, the content is learner-led and part of the real value of these sessions, is being able to learn from one another and share good practice. The other big asset is realising that other people share your worries and concerns, and I think quite often, it is very reassuring to find that other people are in the same boat.

Thanks also to Claire and Helen, my colleagues who helped to enliven these discussions.

I can't post all of the topics covered but I will just list a few key questions raised and discussed in our recent dissertation forum. They are:

  • What if i don't pass?
  • Do I need a methodology section?
  • There's too much to read! How do I break it down into easier chunks?
  • My supervisor and I disagree about things. What next?
  • I'm worried I don't say anything 'new'. Does this matter?
  • How do I know if its good enough?
  • How much theory do I need?
  • What if I miss out a key source or author?
  • Have I got enough time?
  • How do I decide on layout?
  • How do I start each chapter?
  • What deadline should I aim for?

As you can see, we had a lot to talk about and I hope participants were able to draw a lot out of the session. If you'd like to continue the debate, why not add a comment and see what happens...
